Fernando Brancoli spoke to experts on Middle East Relations from Mexico, Colombia, and Chile to discuss their government’s recent responses to Israel’s military escalation on Gaza.
Marta Tawil Kuri, Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir, and Pablo Alvarez Cabello discussed their respective government’s diplomatic response to Israel as well offering a regional analysis to evaluate whether a Latin American shift in foreign policy is evident since October 7. Drs. Tawil, Jaramillo, and Alvarez also discussed the impact of civil society mobilizations in response to the conflict, the role of diasporic Muslim, Arab, and Jewish populations in Latin America, and the opportunities and challenges that Latin American leaders face in actively contributing to conflict mediation. Offering a perspective that is attune to both domestic issues and international affairs, the analysts in this webinar provided an insightful view of Latin America’s role in the ongoing war in Gaza as well as the geopolitical realignment that has ensued.
